London Newborn Photographer When to book a newborn session?

Hi there mum-to be! You would like to know when is the best time to book a newborn session, right!? Let me first congratulate on your pregnancy! How exciting! You probably already have a list of items you need for your little one, from cute clothes to bottles, pacifiers, cribs, bedding, and more. Yes, this list can go on and on. To be honest, it seems like you need a lot, but you really only need a few essentials, but there will be another blog post about that. One more thing you need to add to your list, which I think is very important if you ask me, is to hire a newborn photographer. I know, I know! You’re in your second trimester, but trust me, you don’t want to leave it to the end, which is why some other questions were answered.
When is the best time to book a newborn session?
It is very important to book your newborn session while still pregnant.
Why so early?
You may ask: ‘Why so early? I still have months before the baby is born’!
Coming across newborn photography only after your baby is already born may surprise you when you realise that it can very tricky to find professional newborn photographer in London that has space within the ideal 2 weeks time of baby first arriving! Professional newborn photographers get booked up in advance as we recommend pre-booking your due date with us after your 12 and 20 week scan. This way we can be prepared for your baby’s arrival and save them space around your due date month. One more thing to consider is that I only book certain amount of newborn sessions each month as newborn sessions take even 2-2.5 hours and preparation of final images can take anywhere between 10 and 17 hours! The last thing I want for you is to not have the capacity to photograph you and your precious little baby and send you away!
There are probably a few factors that are important to know when deciding on the best time to book a newborn session. As a starter, the time just before birth is usually the time when you will be busy organizing completely different things. For example: what to take with you to the hospital, what car seat to buy, the purchase of the child’s first clothing and nappies, and the list goes on, an on. Then the next thing to consider is that, we can both plan for your photo shoot in advance. You will have enough time to ask questions, get your wardrobe for the session sorted ( also offer a small choice of outfits you can use for your newborn session). Prior to the newborn session you can decide on the wall art you will want to have for your space, and also budget the cost of the session.
Therefore, it is good to be prepared in advance and have just such a case as booking a photographer – just organized in advance. This is why I say, it is best to book a newborn session very soon after your mid-way baby scan.
How old does my baby need to be for a newborn session?
I recommend having a newborn session soon after the birth. Especially, when you want me to capture your baby at that early stage of their life. In that case this would be 7-14 or 21 days after birth.
If you want to have some time to recover after the birth, or simply want to have a session when your little baby is a little bit older, that is completely fine. I have a huge success photographing babies that are 4 and even 15 months ols. After all, it’s all coming down to capturing your connection with the baby!
Do I need to bring anything?
Your baby – of course! Other than that it is good to have a lovely romper or bodysuit with you. A change of clothing for yourself can also be useful in case of any accidents ( babies’ burps or feed can spill on your outfit accidentally). I will send you a Preparation Guide after booking, so that you will know what to bring for your newborn session. I also have a selection of pieces of clothing, blankets and wraps that I use during the session. Therefore, you will only need to bring a small number of items. No need to stress about this now!

Do you offer payment plans??
Yes I certainly do! You can start a pre-payment plan early in advance, so that when it comes to your photo session it will all or mostly all be paid off. That is another reason why booking a session early is so important as you will have more time to budget and save for it if necessary.
